One article which I saw on facebook about job interviews states that it's irrational to ask your applicants this question, "How do you see yourself 5 yrs from now?" It says there that it's easy to create something in your mind the minute you're asked and there's no guarantee to the accomplishment of your answers.
It may be true, but here's my take on this:
The Bible tells us that we should focus on what's ahead and forget what's behind. I believe that I was designed by God thru my past. I have been molded by each problem, challenge and failure. And every victory in my Lord (oh yes, we're in to everything together!) accentuates the mold He is making in me. I know that my today sums it all. Thus whatever and however my mind works today, is a product of my past. The process I went through, and how I responded to it.
But this doesn't mean, my past defines me. Of course not. Neither is my assumed future, but on how I assume it. It is my today. It's how the ingredients of that past mixed together and was cooked in God's grace that defines my today. And how my mind works today will be expressed on how I see my future.
How I see myself 5 years from now depends on the hope I have in Jesus and the confidence I placed in Him, given everything we've been thru together. So, will I ask that question when I happen to interview again? Yes, I would. Logically, rationally and spiritually.
